April fools. The origin of the day is a mystery. The fool is innocent, free-spirited, faithful and adventurous. For my mother it is her day of birth, and she may not want to be called a fool, we cannot always choose the history or images that we share due to calendar coincidences. We can only choose the history that we are a part of, how we react, our own actions and the ways that we spend our time here on earth.
Mother Nature pulling her own pranks around this time of year with unpredictable weather. A day for excuses to pull practical jokes and media capitalizing on this trend, although over the years it is more than just April 1, we should be conscientious of what we read and look to see if it is reliable.
One explanation being that the new year historically fell with the spring equinox around April 1 marked in the Julian calendar. The switch to the Gregorian calendar moving it to a January 1 marking found many foolishly celebrating on the wrong date. Although I personally see no issue with multiple celebrations and multiple things being celebrated this highlighted for me the importance of shared definitions in a community, especially if you are working with common measurements to operate. If one measures in inches and one measures in centimeters, then there is a breakdown in a partnership each unaware of the others difference in numerical values. A reminder that we get to choose when we make our own mile markers or kilometer markers or whatever you are using to measure. We each are empowered to determine how we measure our time, but in a communal setting there is an importance of sharing your definitions.
May you find the faith that the fool requires every day.
