What does New Year mean to you?

People are saying “I can’t wait for 2020 to be over”, there will not be a magic wand returning things when that clock strikes midnight, this is not Cinderella. I remember 21 years ago when we were all terrified of Y2K and how would technology handle the switch over into a new century. How will you handle the switch over into this next year? We go through life and this changing of the date every year as a reset and a fortune. This year a lot of people have things they are longing to get rid of and leave behind in 2020, I encourage you to find what you need to release and acknowledge the things that felt the hardest over the past few months. Many cultures have traditions for leaving behind the old year, whether in Denmark throwing plates at a neighbor’s doorstep to leave behind any aggression and ill will or burning pop culture and political icons of the ano viejo in Ecuador to cleanse the world of all the bad for the past 12 months and make room for the good to come.

Most New Year’s traditions are about ushering in the good for the next year whether ringing 108 bells in Japan, firing off fireworks in Australia, watching the ball drop in New York we all are hoping to usher in a good new year. Many traditions are centered around food and beverages that are said to promote luck: champagne, grapes, pomegranates, particular breads, round fruits, and meals of abundance. I personally will be launching my campaign of a year of celebrations taking on as many good mojo cultural contributions as possible to make this a strong, beautiful, healthy, and positive year. When the clock strikes midnight in as many places as possible, I will be reflecting on what that can mean for me.

Whatever the new year means to you I wish you the best and new blessings in 2021.
