What does Unity Mean to You?

To be in unity is to feel a part of a team, where all get a chance to hold a sense of belonging and a sense of bringing.  To be in unity is to come to a personality potluck, gathering and sharing individual qualities in a way that completes the meal. Unity means feeling that all are working toward a common goal or purpose.  It is being able to both offer and accept kindness and inclusion. What does unity mean to you?

Unification means to give and receive from one another, to offer the qualities you possess and accept those that you need.  It is mutually beneficial.  No one wins until everyone wins, completing one another through the work of a shared goal and purpose. Unity is finding safety and belonging with one another.  Showing others that we are welcoming and putting out that we are seeking acceptance.

Unity Day is observed as a day to promote kindness, acceptance and inclusion. It began as the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month with a call to action to “Make it orange and make it end”. First held in 2011, a simple task is all it takes to participate: Wear orange and be creative in your involvement. Maybe tie orange ribbons on trees, go around the neighborhood and draw with orange chalk, change your profile pic to an orange themed smile. Wearing orange provides a visual display of solidarity sending a supportive message that bullying is never acceptable behavior.  I associate orange with vibrancy and visibility, worn in construction and displayed for safety precautions. To wear orange on this day is to show that you are willing to provide construction level security, that you are willing to be a sign of safety and support. What are your true colors when it comes to unity?
