What does A Moment of Silence mean to you?

What does a moment of silence mean to you? The loss of Ruth Bader Ginsburg brought to surface many feelings, especially with this election timing. More than the loss of this human rights icon, this year has brought losses at a level that many of us have never experienced before. Lives, livelihoods, and lifestyles lost to the pandemic. We are aware more than ever of the changes in traditions, celebrations, and activities we once knew. In addition to pandemic losses we have been faced with sharp and forced truths coming to the surface related to our country and our systems. Of communities divided, of civil rights questioned and of a need to take a moment or more to reflect and silently look at how to make this meaningful call to action work for you.

Each year to reaffirm the Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance, there are 6 moments of silence observed at various times throughout the morning of September 11. This is not done because America has forgotten the tragedy, but instead to reignite our humanity as a group. We need a moment to summon our strength and courage out of horrible devastation and connect with humanity again. We need to pause in remembrance, in reflection and once again in unity.

Moments of silence have been used to unite people in communal reflection and mourning. Moments of silence unite people in appreciation and gratitude for service of those who have fallen. Moments of silence allow us to properly honor and pay tribute to all that is lost. Where can you find take a moment of silence to pay tribute to the legacy of things lost? What would it take for you to find stillness and suspension of activity to honor whatever loss that needs honoring?

Go and Make Smart Choices,
